Early Years
1961
In 1961, Marin Charitable was formed by 10 pioneering women who launched the organization in an effort to support Marin General Hospital.
1964
The focus and mission was broadened from being focused on supporting the Marin General Hospital, to supporting children and teens across Marin County.
1968
Membership in Marin Charitable had grown to over 100, and the standard requirement of an in - person review of each grant applicant sas established. This thorough process remains the foundation from which Marin Charitable continues to work today.
Recent Endowment Establishment
2021
Effort to create the Marin Charitable Endowment Fund launched.
2023
With the minimum goals of $250,000 raised in remarkable time, Marin Charitable’s Endowment Fund was established with the Marin Community Foundation. Marin Charitable’s grant ceiling (max amount of funds that an applicant can request) was raised from $5,000 to $7,500.
2024
Endowment Fund exceeds $1.3M, and Marin Charitable establishes its first paid position in its 63 - year history.
2025
Marin Charitable receives the final distribution of a transformational bequest from longtime supporter John Wilhelm, whose generosity will strengthen the organization’s impact for generations to come. Marin Charitable also welcomes its first Executive Director, ushering in a new era of growth and community impact.
