One of the most meaningful parts of our work happens after the grants are awarded...when we begin to see how those funds take shape in the lives of young people across our community.
A recent feature in the Marin Independent Journal highlights several Marin Charitable grantees and the real-world impact of their programs. From career exploration in healthcare to individualized support for foster youth, these stories offer a powerful glimpse into how opportunity, access, and encouragement can change a young person’s path.
Below are a few highlights from the article:
Supporting Future Healthcare Professionals
The program includes instruction led by doctoral-level professors from Dominican University of California, along with CPR certification, nursing simulation lab training, and exposure to real college classroom experiences.
“By removing financial barriers and expanding access to high-quality career exploration and readiness opportunities, this grant helps us inspire and prepare the next generation of compassionate health care professionals,” Newson said.“That’s while providing at-risk teens with a pathway to purpose, confidence and future career success.”
Creating Opportunities for Foster Youth
Joanna Stott of the Marin Foster Care Association shared how their grant supports the “Opportunity Project” for youth ages 13–18.
“The Opportunity Project provides grants for educational and enrichment activities tailored to a foster youth’s immediate needs, skills and interests.”
From guitar lessons to diving, horseback riding, and essential tools like laptops and printers, these grants meet young people where they are — and help them pursue what matters most to them.
Supporting Connection and Belonging
Marin 9 to 25 is using its grant to develop a youth-led, culturally relevant Spanish-language resource guide for newcomer youth.
"The guide includes a toolkit to help peers and adult advocates use it effectively, while also supporting the expansion of programs that encourage youth connection and overall well-being."
Why This Matters
These stories are a reminder that the impact of a grant is not one-size-fits-all. Sometimes it looks like career preparation. Sometimes it looks like access to enrichment. And sometimes, it’s simply about helping a young person feel supported, seen, and connected.
We are grateful to partner with organizations doing this important work — and to the community that makes it all possible.
