What drew you to Marin Charitable?
Ursula Stratford (Perky was her daughter, and Jerry, her son). She wanted me to join MC. Oh my, I was so young...29 or 30? At the time, I was also volunteering with the Junior League of San Francisco, the Marin Designers Showcase, and was on the board of the Volunteer Center in Marin. So, I took the plunge and became very active.
What made you say yes to becoming President?
I was honored, and I loved being the President. I had a fabulous board and we all worked together so often. In those days, we didn't have the money we have now, but we made a go of it and loved thinking about our future expansion of the new young ladies.
What was your proudest moment as Marin Charitable President?
It was when we chose Book Passage—Elaine Petrocelli—to be honored at our fundraiser at the Corinthian Yacht Club. It was a very exciting moment.
What's one piece of advice you'd give to someone considering Marin Charitable?
Join GRANTS! I did it for about 3 years and loved it. I cried every time I interviewed a potential group.
What did serving as Marin Charitable President teach you that you still carry with you today?
Marin Charitable has taught me to always work towards helping others, donating time and giving gifts to others.
